Sleeping Beauty starts today!

Today’s the day! For four days only the Helsby Players will be performing Sleeping Beauty by Rufus Norris at St. Paul’s Church, Helsby.

Let us usher you through an enchanted realm to meet a strange fairy with a hundred-year mission as she recounts the tale of her folly and woe. Watch as brave and brazen princes come, both foolhardy and fierce, and see who is strong enough to unlock the sleeping castle, and rescue the maiden within. Meet ogres, nature-driven and human-bound, and woodland creatures big and small. Come join us on an adventure for the courageous and the bold as we spin you a… different take on one of the greatest fairytales ever told.

The play runs between 7-9pm Wednesday to Friday, and 2-4pm on Saturday.

Please note parking may be limited on Saturday, and we ask you to please be considerate to the local homeowners when choosing a parking space. Please park in the church car park when possible.

Tickets are still available for purchase at Thrifty’s, the Old Bank Tea Rooms or online at Eventbrite (online ticket sales close an hour before each performance). But don’t worry if you can’t pick one up before the event as you can also pay at the door (subject to change if sold out).

Finally, we have had to make two emergency casting changes due to ill health. We send our love and hopes for a swift recovery to our friends and fellow castmates, and our many thanks to the actors who stepped up to learn new lines and characters with so little time to spare. We hope our audience will give us a little grace in these circumstances but reassure you that we have been working double time to keep the show as seamless as possible.

Remember, tickets are on sale up to an hour before each show, or until the shop shuts, and you can also pay at the door. So why not join us for a night of heartfelt laughter, or an afternoon of magical joy down at St. Paul’s Church, Vicarage Lane, Helsby.

We hope to see you soon!

Winter 2024: SLEEPING BEAUTY

Helsby Players’ is proud to announce that we are in rehearsals for Sleeping Beauty, adapted by Rufus Norris.

We are so excited to bring you this magical tale filled with misunderstood fairies, beautiful princesses and… man-eating ogres?!

Rufus Norris’ take on this 700-year-old folktale takes the Sleeping Beauty story (specifically the versions popularised by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm) and adapts it for modern audiences. With proud princes, ominous ogres and a flatulent fairy, this play blends classic fairytale fantasy with heroic humour and magical misunderstandings (and just a dash of childhood nostalgia) to bring you a delightfully fun tale the whole family will love.

Helsby Players will be performing in St. Paul’s Church, Helsby from Wednesday 11th to Saturday 14th December 2024. Times and ticket information coming soon.

So make a mark in your diaries, set up your alerts and make sure to watch this space, or follow us on Facebook, to keep up to date with the latest Helsby Players news.

We hope to see you in December,

Helsby Players

(P.S: This play is not a panto. 😉)
